About Talking Trees Studio

Hi there, and welcome to my studio — I’m Karina, an intuitive painter and full-time artist living in New Zealand. My studio is surrounded by trees, and it’s here that my creative practice is rooted.

The name Talking Trees Studio comes from a quiet, personal experience: when I’m among the trees, I sense a language of stillness, movement, and presence that brings me calm and clarity. It’s this feeling I endeavour to capture in my work.

Working with oil and cold wax, I explore the layered beauty of nature — especially the symbolic and emotional presence of trees. Their textures, forms, and quiet strength mirror our own life stories: growth, change, resilience, and renewal. Each painting is built slowly, with intention, using rich textures and colour to echo both the natural world and the inner landscape.

After earning a Bachelor of Design with a specialisation in Textile Design my creative journey has evolved through many years of professional experience in a career across various design disciplines including both product & interior design.

Using colour harmoniously, much like nature itself, I draw on my diverse background to create work that forges a deeper connection between the you and the natural world. My aim is to create art that invites reflection and brings a sense of calm into your space.

Thanks so much for stopping by
Karina

“When I begin to paint my direction is felt rather than directed. Building the foundation of the painting based on the elements I feel captured in my memory”

At the heart of it…

At Talking Trees Studio, I create art from a place of presence - rooted in the quiet wisdom of the trees. My work is a celebration of nature’s subtle beauty, an invitation to slow down, and a reminder to stay connected to the world around and within us.
